Procedures We Perform

Colonoscopy

Colon cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in the United States of America. It has no gender discrimination and can be prevented by undergoing a preventive procedure, such as, colonoscopy. Early detection is the best prevention. A colonoscopy enables the gastroenterologist to detect any growth and removal of polyps in their early stages, which can become malignant if ignored. Most colon cancers start as benign polyps with no symptoms.

Current guidelines indicate anyone who is 50 years of age should undergo a colonoscopy, irrespective of gender and race, even if there are no symptoms to offer. If one has symptoms, such as, altered bowel habits, anemia, blood in stools, inflammatory bowel disease, and or has first degree relative with colon cancer or polyps is highly recommended to undergo this procedure regardless of age.

A colonoscopy can be done as an outpatient procedure at an endoscopy center and at an affordable price.

Gastroscopy(EGD)

Evaluating the upper GI tract, including esophagus, stomach, and duodenum is called a gastroscopy. Patients with symptoms such as, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, anemia, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, painful swallowing, chest discomfort, weight loss, bloating, and belching, should undergo this procedure.

Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy (Pill-Cam by Given Co.)

Patients with anemia who had a negative colonoscopy and gastroscopy should undergo this procedure. It is a wireless camera in a capsule form that is swallowed by the patient. Also, patients with unexplained abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weigh! loss should undergo this small bowel evaluation.

ERCP
